Looking at this blog might lead one to believe that not that much has been going on at Bike Farm in the past six months. But if you’ve spent any time in the shop you would know that there’s been a lot of activity. Here’s a brief summary just to fill y’all in.
Summer boomed - The shop was packed this summer. There were so many people getting their bikes ready for tours and general summery enjoyment.
Volunteers went on tour – Momoko rode from Eugene to San Fran with The Spoken Heart Collective to promote social justice and learn leadership skills. Dusty and myself toured the beautiful state of Oregon finding adventure at every turn.
New Double Stand – Summer success allowed Bike Farm to expand it’s capacity for bike work with a new stand that accommodates two bicycles.
Shop reorganization - Lisa brought in tons of shelving and Peter made hooks for more wheel storage among other projects. We are constantly searching for the most efficient use of our space.
Women & Trans Night - Lisa, Jess, and Laura have been working to make every other Tuesday an extra comfy space for female and transgendered people to come and work on their bikes.
New Volunteers – More and more folks are coming in and helping out with our shop operations. It seems that as things get chillier more people are working on volunteer projects, building up bikes for the shop and getting a chance to learn even more about bike mechanics.
Dusty got a grant! - Dusty applied to the Students in Service program and got a grant for doing Bike Farm.
Build Bikes Program! – Bike Farm is in the process of creating a new program that will allow folks in need of a bike to trade their labor for their very own two wheeled machine. More info to come on that one!
Well, I hope I have sufficiently corrected our blog deficiency. Hope to see all of you readers in the shop!
