Volunteer for BikeFarm  (And take back the title of #1 biking city!)

Help teach fellow riders how to work on their bikes, or even earn a bicycle of their own.

Currently, BikeFarm needs help with:

(1). The Build Bikes program
Build Bikes helps to get bikes to the people who need them.  February marked the launch of our pilot program. Participants are able to build two bikes for bike farm and then a third for themselves for free.  The goal of the program is not only to supply people without monetary funds a means of transportation, but also to instill bicycle maintenance skills, ensuring sustained use of the bike.   We need people who are excited to get more bikes on the road and have a desire to help organize this program and make it an ongoing project in Bike Farm.

(2). High School Bicycle Education
Every Wednesday morning Portland high-schoolers come in to BikeFarm for an elective class to learn bicycle mechanics.  Help teach them!  Volunteer mechanics will pass on their knowledge and assist the students during hands-on learning.  (Examples – reconditioning hubs, servicing headsets, etc.)

(3). Normal shop maintenance
Now that the weather is warm, we have more eager riders coming in to fix their bikes.  Volunteer Mechanics will show them how to make the repair, and then step back and let the participant work by themselves.  Our open hours have an energetic, friendly, and supportive atmosphere.  Join us and help enrich Portland’s cycling culture by teaching your neighbors bicycle self-sufficiency.  We are open on Monday and Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm, Friday from 12pm to 4 pm, Saturday from 11pm to 4pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm.  We particularly need volunteers for Saturday and Monday.

By volunteering with Bikefarm you’re not only making friends, but building community, learning valuable bike skills, and helping those in need.
Volunteers of every skill level are encouraged and welcomed.  If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please come in to the shop during our open hours to talk with us.
