Bike Farm is an all volunteer-run collective dedicated to every aspect of bicycle education, from safe commuting to repair. Our mission is to provide a space where people can learn about the bicycle and build community around promoting sustainable transportation. We strive to demystify the bicycle in order to impact the city in a healthy and positive way.

BF meeting notes 4/26/11

Bike Fix it Fair:

Event hosted by K-8 school, volunteer mechanics work on bikes for families and kids and BTA is there, sell helmets for $5 and raffle off helmets and lights and such. Most of the students and fams are below Fed poverty level.

We helped out last year worked with Reid from BF, he got together some parts.

Proposal: hit up our email list for volunteers and provide some parts to sell them for use at the fair:

Shift checkins:

Sometimes the shop has been a mess when people come in to start their shift. Please make sure stuff is clean, keyholder’s responsibility before you leave. If it gets busy, please close up projects and let patrons know they have to clean up their area too.

Sunday has been really busy. Dillan is back next Sunday…

Paul no longer regular on shift for Sunday.

Wednesday Jeremy is leaving town for a couple weeks, so need to cover. Jesse to check with Jeremy and hit the list.

Wifi update

Wifi options: Keep it $50/under look into comcast again for non-prof discount , qwest for 5 year high volume discount might be an option.

Confirm some spending meeting items:

  • sharpen housing cutters, costs $25 to sharpen so should buy new pairs for $17 or $10 SBS brand. buy 5 or so and keep some in lock box.
  • torque wrench $28-odd – purchase through cyclone or hardware store.
  • we decided a bit ago that anything under $100 can be bought without approval except through Jeremy or Adam approval.
  • Fixed cup BB removal, approved from last spending meeting, needs to be ordered from UBS.
  • Chairs, at Jesse’s he will bring.

Upcoming tabling opportunities

  • Sunday parkways $100 for a booth. (north portland one June 26th), do we want to do it. do a rogue booth instead? Iiinteresting… Deadline for booths is 5 weeks before so May 23rd. – Tabled.
  • Multnomah County Bike Fair – free to participate, Shifttobikes.org for into (May 14th is fair day) – need to have dedication to set up.
  • Last Thursdays??? guerilla set up

Summer hours start

the need, not many volunteers. Frank might want to expand a weekday night.

Saturday consideration needs more volunteers, tabled

Proposal: Frank proposes Monday extension to 9pm. Also Calvin can do it.

PASSED! effective immediate. Will let list know and change on the website. Monday hours: 4pm – 9pm.

Bike Intake Form

Frank is working on multiple choice webform, almost done.  WIll share with group for testing.

Will need to train all super volunteers during a special day when this and the volunteer system is set up.

Coordinators tabled until tracking system.

Craigslist ads to put up bikes

Already a policy just no one has been doing it.
good way, need photos and set up blog as well. Calvin to post on blog and craigslist ads.

Tires to workbench area
Frank has been working (measuring, bring in supplies) on it but needs help to coord. Plan is to move tires and use area for stand and pegboard. If you want to help, contact Frank!

Rollcarts idea for truing stands too.
